Removable prostheses on implants

Removable prostheses on implants are an option with retention on dental implants, although they are not completely fixed. These prostheses, known as overdentures, are supported by two to four dental implants, and are supported on the patient's gumsline. Hence the importance of doing it on an attached gingiva, with a good bottom of the vestibule and without irregularities that make the prosthesis sway. The means of joining the implant with the prosthesis is made by means of an intermediate attachment such as a locator, a bar, a ball or a male-female connection. Removable prostheses on remaining teeth

These prostheses are retained in the adjacent teeth and are supported on the gumlines. The fewer teeth and less vestibule depth the patient has, the less support the prosthesis will have. There are some that are supported by hooks on the adjacent teeth, others only use acrylic and are more aesthetic. If there are no teeth at all, a full denture can be made, although this can be problematic, because it will not have much support and will only be supported on the mucous membrane. The upper denture fits better due to the palate, while the lower denture may be more difficult to fit due to the tongue. If used permanently, the denture will need to be relined annually due to bone and gum loss.
